Our vision

Our first introduction to orphanages in Bali left us wondering if there was a better way to build and run an orphanage. In the Salvation Army Orphanage in Denpasar, the 100 kids were divided into two dormitories. One for girls and one for boys. Each dorm housed 50 kids. Bunk beds were lined up and they slept 2 to a bunk. Each had a small locker, in which to put all of their personal affects. The kids were disciplined as they would be in a Juvenile Detention facility. There was no sense of family at all. It seemed like these kids were just given a place to survive, not flourish. We thought that there was a better way. We began brainstorming. What we came up with was an orphanage without dorms. We wanted to build an orphanage with individual houses for the kids. Over the years, we came to understand that Indonesia had a problem. There were lots of unwanted pregnancies where the infants were discarded. This reinforced our plans for an orphanage. Dorms were not conducive to raising infants, but houses were! Our aim is to build small villages, where children can be raised in family environments. Our first project is Mahanaim Village Orphanage. We plan on 12 homes. Each will be home to 8 children and a house Mom. They will be a family living in a home.
